This Mother’s Day, We Honor Dani - Mom, One of the Lucky Few

This Mother’s Day feels different. For the first time, we’re not just telling the stories of the children and individuals we photograph, we’re honoring the mothers behind them. The ones who advocate, who fight, who celebrate, who carry both the weight and the wonder of this journey every single day. Because in this community, mothers are more than parents; they are advocates, navigators, protectors, and cheerleaders. They are the reason space exists where it once didn’t.

Meet Dani, mom of three, twin 12-year-olds, and a 7-year-old little boy who rocks that beautiful extra chromosome. At 40, she shares that she’s finally coming into her own, learning to live in a way that feels more authentic and unapologetic. Choosing joy, even when it’s hard. Because the reality is… It really is hard sometimes. She’s currently navigating a placement battle, searching for a school that will truly treasure her son, Kinlin. And like so many of us mothers in this community and more, she carries that responsibility with strength, learning as she goes, pushing forward even on the days that feel uncertain.

But her story isn’t just one of advocacy. It’s one of joy. Of growth. Of becoming. She describes her life as lucky, and she means it. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s full. Full of meaning. Full of connection. Full of moments that matter. In her work at GiGi’s Playhouse, she’s surrounded by the very community that shapes her life. The families, the children, the shared understanding… It’s not just a job. It’s part of who she is.

And at the center of it all, she’s mom. The one who will always be cheering her children on, no matter what paths they choose. The one who hopes they remember her not just for the strength she showed, but for the joy she brought. For being silly. For being present. For being fully, unapologetically herself. The kind of mom who flies to Florida to see Pitbull and wears a bald cap just to dance in the pit because life is meant to be lived, and memories are meant to be made.

This is what motherhood in this community looks like. It’s advocacy and exhaustion. Its growth and uncertainty. It’s laughter in the middle of it all. And it’s a love deeper than words can hold. This Mother’s Day, we honor Dani and the mothers who are shaping not just their children’s lives, but the future of an entire community. You are seen. You are cherished. And your impact reaches further than you may ever realize.
